About Us

ABOUT US

Broadway Kids in the County is theatre company that works primarily with children ages 18 and under, but we also offer the occasional musical that also features adults.

The musicals that we produce highlight children of all ages and the young at heart, and we will work hard to find each child's strength!

Theatre is something that not all County kids have access to on a regular basis, and we work hard to fill that gap. When learning a musical, our actors will learn how to read music, new dance steps, acting, theatre terms, and also learn important life skills that will also carry over to their school work, such as: improving their memorization skills, their ability to focus on something other then an electronic device for a few hours at a time, they will also gain self confidence that will stay with them throughout their life.

Not to mention the memories and friendships they will make with children from other towns and different ages that will last a lifetime!

If your child just doesn't fit in doing sports, maybe this is where they will feel at home and will finally be able to blossom into the wonderful little people they are destined to be!

We strive to offer a wide range of theatre events. We feel it is important for our actors to experience and be exposed to different types of shows and not always just do the same thing over and over.

Currently we offer four series of events:

Mainstage Musicals - These are our BIG musicals, we aim to produce two to three in a season right now and would love to offer more per season as we grow as a company. These musicals can also be opened for high schoolers and adults too! These sessions are typically 8 to 10 week sessions. So far we have produced: Giants in the Sky, Kooky Christmas, Shrek the Musical, Elf Junior, Bonnie & Clyde, Frozen Junior & Matilda the Musical. These are $200 per session. There are sibling / family discounts available, as well as a payment plan that works best for you.

Summer Camp Musicals - These are fully stage Junior shows that we rehearse, stage and perform in a week. The shows are cast about a month out so the actors are able to pick up their scripts well in advanced and are expected to be mostly off-book by the first rehearsal. These camps run from Sunday to Saturday with three public performances on Friday and Saturday. These are the perfect musicals to introduce mini actors to theatre! Or for the actors that only have a week free during the summer. These are open for mini actors going into grades 1st-8th grade and they are taught by veteran high school and college students. These camps are $50 for the Rising Stars (grades 1-3) and $100 for the Junior Players (grades 4-8). In the past we held Honk Junior & Annie Junior. This summer we are producing Mary Poppins Junior and our first two week summer camp for up to 10th graders of Beauty and the Beast Junior.

A Little Taste of Broadway Revue - These are smaller shows that are designed to help our actors get more comfortable on the stage. These shows typically play to smaller audiences, sot there’s little stage freight. Each Revue has a theme and songs from different Broadway musicals that fit the theme will be chosen for each actor. We rehearse twice a week for the full month, which only gives us six two hour rehearsals so it’s a speedy process, which is great for making the actors pick new songs up fast. We try to do about four of these in a year. The past themes we’ve done are: Overused Musical Theatre Songs, Songs to Inspire, Showstoppers!, Tony Winning Musicals & Disney Songs. These are $45 per session.

After School Theatre Program - These are 6 to 8 week programs for school aged actors. These run twice a week that end in a public showcase that are open to the public. We offer a variety of programs for the kids to enjoy. In the past we offered a Comedy Writing class and a Carol Burnett Show where the kids watched a variety of sketches and picked which ones they wanted to perform! These are $100 per session.

Broadway Teens in The County - These musicals and plays will be open for actors ages 13-19 only! We are currently producing our first play in this series — All in the Timing.

Broadway After Dark - We will produce plays for the 18+ crowd. Any plays produced in this series will NOT be child friendly to participate in or to come watch. These will be perfect for the young adults and adults looking to be a part of productions that tackle the more serious social issues in life. We hope to offer our first of this series soon!

In the future, we are always looking for more ways to expand and to offer more of a variety to our actors. We would love to offer improvisation for actors of all ages, which can not only help them on stage, but offstage too. We would also love to produce straight plays (no singing or dancing) for the actors in the community who want to focus more on their acting and may not be a strong singer. We are also hoping to down the road offer a Masterclass series where we will bring professionals from New York City to teach an hour long intensive, or an all day class on their craft. The more we grow, the more series and events we will be able to offer in a season!
